Watch Scottish Football on IPTV UK (2026/27)
Scottish football has some of the most passionate support in Europe, and an Old Firm derby is still one of the game's great occasions. Following it on television takes a little planning, because only some matches are shown live and the cups sit with different broadcasters. Here's how it works and where IPTV fits in.
How the Scottish Premiership is televised
The Scottish Premiership has 12 clubs, and each plays 38 league games, with the league splitting into a top six and bottom six for the final five rounds. A selection of matches each season is chosen for live TV coverage on subscription sports channels. Most of the rest kick off at 3pm on Saturday and are not shown live in the UK.
Highlights of every game are shown free-to-air on the BBC in Scotland, and there's regular radio and online coverage too.
The cups
- Scottish Cup: the oldest national trophy in world football, with the final at Hampden Park in May
- League Cup: starts with a group stage in July and finishes with a final before Christmas
Cup rights are sold separately from the league, so they can be on different channels, with some games free-to-air. Check the listings for each round.
The fixtures to plan around
- Celtic v Rangers: the Old Firm usually meet four times a season in the league
- Hearts v Hibernian: the Edinburgh derby, when both are in the top flight
- Dundee v Dundee United: two grounds on the same street, when both are in the division
- Post-split fixtures: the final five rounds decide the title, Europe and relegation
How IPTV helps
With IPTV, the UK sports channels that carry live Scottish football sit in the same guide as the free-to-air channels showing highlights and cup ties. You don't need to work out which subscription covers which competition. It also means:
- One subscription covers the Scottish game alongside English, European and international football
- You can watch on a TV at home or on a phone when you're out
- Channels with catch-up let you watch a match you missed. See IPTV catch-up explained
Scottish fans abroad
For Scots living overseas, following your club is often the main reason to look at IPTV. A subscription works anywhere with an internet connection, so the channels you'd watch at home are available from Spain, Canada or Australia. Our guide to watching UK TV abroad explains what you need.
Scotland internationals and Europe
National team games and Scottish clubs' European ties are usually sold as separate rights again, and are often split between free-to-air and subscription channels. For European nights, see the Champions League on IPTV.
