How to Set Up IPTV on an LG Smart TV (UK 2026)
LG Smart TVs run webOS, which is a closed system similar in spirit to Apple TV — you cannot sideload apps freely, so setup looks different from a Firestick or Android box. That said, plenty of UK households run IPTV directly on their LG TV with no extra hardware at all.
Two ways to watch IPTV on an LG TV
- Directly through webOS — some LG models support a compatible IPTV player app either pre-installed or available through the LG Content Store, which reads a standard M3U playlist or Xtream login.
- Through an external device — plugging a Firestick or Android box into an HDMI port sidesteps webOS limitations entirely and gives you the widest choice of player apps, which is why we recommend it for older LG models.
Setting it up directly on webOS
- Check the LG Content Store for a supported IPTV player app on your specific model and webOS version.
- Install the app and open it.
- Enter your playlist URL, or your username and password if your account uses Xtream-style login, exactly as sent by your provider.
- Give the app a moment to load your full channel list and guide.
If your LG TV does not support a good player
Older or budget LG models sometimes have limited app support on webOS, in which case an external Firestick or Android box is genuinely the better route — it plugs into any HDMI port, costs very little, and opens up every player app on this site rather than just what LG's store happens to carry.
Keeping the picture smooth
Connect your LG TV to Ethernet if the router is nearby, or make sure it is on the 5GHz Wi-Fi band. If channels buffer during peak evening hours, our buffering guide covers the fixes that work for both built-in and external setups.
