How to Set Up IPTV on Google TV and Chromecast (UK 2026)
Chromecast with Google TV and other Google TV devices are one of the easier platforms for IPTV, because they run on Android underneath and support installing apps outside the main store when you choose to. If you already own one for Netflix or YouTube, there is a good chance it can double up as your IPTV box with no extra hardware.
Why Google TV works well
Because Google TV is Android-based, it supports the same sideloading approach as a Firestick or Android TV box — sideloading a legitimate player app from outside the Play Store is a completely normal, legal way to install apps that are not listed there, and it is exactly how most IPTV players reach these devices.
Setting it up step by step
- On your Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV device, go to Settings, then System, then About, and enable Unknown Sources so the device will accept apps installed outside the Play Store.
- Install Downloader (or a similar sideloading tool) from the Play Store if it is available on your model, or use a file manager if not.
- Enter the current link for a compatible IPTV player app — we send customers the safest, up-to-date link over WhatsApp so you always know it is current.
- Install the app, open it, and log in with the details your provider sends you.
- Run through the channel list and EPG once loaded to confirm everything is working before your first proper viewing session.
A quicker alternative: casting
If you would rather not sideload anything, you can also cast an IPTV player app running on your phone straight to the Chromecast, the same way you would cast a YouTube video. It is a lower-effort option, though a dedicated player installed directly on the device tends to give smoother playback and a proper full-screen guide.
Getting the best performance
Google TV devices are compact, so give yours a stable Wi-Fi connection or, better still, a wired adapter if your router is close by. If channels stutter, our guide on fixing IPTV buffering covers the most common causes, and our page on how much internet speed you actually need for IPTV is worth checking if you are on an older broadband package.
Ready to try it live
Once the app is installed, everything else is the same as any other device — sign in, browse the guide, and start watching. See our Android setup guide for more detail on the sideloading process, or compare plans once you are happy with performance.
