How to Watch IPTV on Roku (UK 2026)

Roku is one of the most popular streaming devices in UK living rooms, but it is also the most restrictive when it comes to IPTV. Unlike a Firestick or an Android box, Roku does not let you sideload apps from outside its own channel store, so the usual "install a player app directly" route does not apply here. That does not mean IPTV is off the table — it just means you need a slightly different approach.

Why Roku is different

Roku's operating system is a closed platform. Every channel has to go through the Roku Channel Store, and IPTV player apps generally are not listed there because Roku does not host that category of app. This is normal and by design — it is the trade-off for a device that is simple, cheap and rarely misbehaves.

Option one: casting from your phone

The most reliable way to get your subscription onto a Roku-connected TV is to cast from a phone or tablet. Most compatible IPTV player apps on Android and iOS support casting to a Roku over your home Wi-Fi.

  1. Install a compatible IPTV player app on your phone or tablet and sign in using the details your provider sends you.
  2. Make sure your phone and your Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Start playback in the player app, then use its cast or screen-mirror option to send the picture to your Roku-connected TV.
  4. Control playback, channel changes and the guide from your phone while the picture plays on the big screen.

This works well for casual viewing, though it relies on your phone staying awake and connected, so it suits a match or an evening's viewing rather than being left running all day.

Option two: a browser-based player

Some Roku models support screen mirroring from a laptop, which lets you open a browser-based IPTV player on your computer and mirror the whole desktop to the TV. It is a slightly clunkier setup than a dedicated app, but it avoids installing anything unusual on the Roku itself and works on most modern Roku sticks and TVs.

Option three: swap in a more flexible box

If you watch IPTV daily, the honest advice is that Roku is not really built for it. A cheap Android TV box or a Firestick sitting alongside your Roku gives you a proper dedicated player with a full channel guide, favourites and catch-up, without fighting the platform every evening. Many of our customers keep Roku for Netflix and streaming apps, and use a second small box just for IPTV.

Getting the details right

Whichever route you choose, you will need login details from your provider to sign into the player app. We send customers the current recommended player link and setup instructions over WhatsApp, so you are never guessing which app is safe to use or where to find it. Check our full devices page for other options if Roku is proving awkward in your setup.
